    Biodiesel is made through a process called Transesterification. Transesterfication exchanges an alkoxy group with a different type of alcohol. Than by adding an acid or a base it catalyzes the reactions. Acids catalyze reactions by giving a proton to a carbonyl group. Bases catalyze by taking a proton from the alcohol.

There are some basic things you will need to build a Biodiesel processor. While plans may differ there are some universal items you will need. Stock up on beakers. Purchase different sizes you do not have to mix or cross contaminate any fluids. For your collection drums you will need extra lids and labels. You want to keep track of all your liquids and materials.

Another important item you will need is a drum heater. Buy a heavy duty model to make sure it will heat through metal drums. There is no need for a drum heater unless you have the drums. Buy the different size drums you will need. You may also need drum or bucket filters.

Other smaller items you may need include stirrers, power cords, funnels and Teflon tape. The extra tools that you will need are a wrench, cutter and possibly a heating gun. You can find an array of different Biodiesel plans online. Appleseed and Utah Biodiesel will both have proven to work plans.
